New Samsung Portable SSD X5 Thunderbolt 3

The Samsung X5 provides speeds up to 2800 MB/s read and 2100 MB/s write (500GB version) or 2300 MB/s write (1TB or 2TB version.)

Samsung unveiled the X5 Portable SSD on Tuesday, its first NVM-based solid state drive that will deliver incredible speeds, which can make it an indispensable accessory if you're looking for more local storage. The tremendous speed comes at a cost, so your wallet must be prepared to deal with success.

It's not just NVMe technology that allows you to transfer files at higher speeds than before. The X5 is also a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) storage device, which will help with massive data transfers. The drive will work with any PC or Mac that has a Thunderbolt 3 port - or you'll have to buy adapters.

The X5 runs Samsung's portable SSD software, which includes 256-bit data encryption and optional password protection.

At read and write speeds it is up to 2,800 MB / s and 2,300 MB / s, respectively, which would allow you to transfer a 4GB 20 GB video file in just 12 seconds. According to Samsung, they are 5.2x and 4.5x faster than the read and write speeds of Samsung SATA SSDs and up to 25.5x / 20.9x faster than external HDDs. Again, the X5 will deliver a very high speed.

Other features include a full metal body with a glossy finish and non-slip mat, built-in shock-resistant frame, sturdy metal case, Thermal Guard technology and heat sink.

The unit will come in three capacities, including 500GB, 1TB and 2TB, which will cost $ 399.99, $ 699.99 and $ 1,399.99, respectively. You will have to wait until September 3, however, to get one.
